Become a Committee Member
Committee members are the face of UGA HEROs. Individuals that are members of HEROs committees have a unique opportunity to become even more involved with raising money for kids in Georgia affected by HIV/AIDS.
Students may join any of 12 committees based on personal interest. As committee members, they will work under an Executive Council leader to coordinate multiple fundraising events throughout the year, promote UGA HEROs around campus, and recruit Philanthropists for the coming Fall semester.
List of Committees
Internal Affairs
- PR/Marketing – Tuesdays @ 6:45 PM
The purpose of UGA HEROs’ Public Relations Committee is to creatively and enthusiastically promote UGA HEROs as an organization and to support fundraising events. We will look for new, interesting ways to boost the positive image of this organization while having fun at the same time! Activities include on-site promotions, public relations campaigns, marketing, advertising, and working with the local media and press, as well as fundraising. The committee members should be extremely motivated and enthusiastic about HERO and be able to show those qualities to the public through writing and taking action. Committee members should be upbeat, positive, outgoing, extroverted, and enjoy working with people.
- Multimedia – Tuesdays @ 7:00 PM
This special-interest committee is perfect for someone who has experience with filming, video editing, or photography. This committee will be working to create a video archive of HERO activity. Committee members will brainstorm new video projects, help film and produce short videos that promote and celebrate big events, and help maintain the website. Multimedia committee members will work closely with the Promotions/Marketing and WOW Committees. The goal of this committee is to utilize new technology in order to reach out to UGA HEROs’ members, to help recruit hundreds of philanthropists in the fall, and to inspire and raise awareness around our cause.
- Campus Development – Wednesdays @ 7:30 PM
The Campus Development committee serves UGA HEROs by reaching out across campus to help coordinate recruitment of philanthropists as well as helping the organization by spreading our cause throughout campus. Campus Development will create events designed to attract campus members to our cause. This committee will concentrate on developing future leaders for the organization and inspiring more involvement within HERO. We are counting on this committee to help us grow our HERO family!
External Affairs
- Corporate Relations – Wednesdays @ 7:30 PM
The goal of the Corporate Relations committee is to create and maintain relationships with businesses and corporations in NE Georgia. We will utilize these contacts for guidance, to obtain sponsorships, and to tap new resources. Much of the committee’s focus will lie on securing monetary sponsorships for the HERO Olympics. Corporate Relations will also be responsible for planning and holding a corporate-sponsored event (such as a golf tournament) in an attempt to foster involvement from the Athens corporate world. Committee members are expected to visit businesses on a regular basis and should represent HERO in a professional manner. Students who are typically overachievers, business-oriented, hardworking, dependable, and enthusiastic would be a great addition to the Corporate Relations team!
- High School Relations – Wednesdays @ 6:30 PM
The High School Relations committee is responsible for creating and maintaining relationships with local high schools to further expand HERO for Children’s mission and fundraising abilities. We wish to utilize local high schools to increase AIDS awareness and financial support for HERO in and around Athens. The committee should be composed of dedicated, energetic, and caring individuals who wish to better the world around them through the creation of mini HERO organizations within the high schools and through competitive committee fundraising. Committee members should be thinking outside the box for ways to get new schools involved as well as new ideas for current high schools!
- Alumni Relations – Tuesdays @ 6:00 PM
The Alumni Relations committee will be responsible for creating and maintaining valuable relationships with HEROs alumni. Committee members will be in contact with our alumni throughout the year and will work with them to expand our alumni network for even greater fundraising. This committee will also work on planning social events for current HEROs and HEROs alumni in Athens and Atlanta as a way for other members to connect with people who were in our position during their time at UGA. We want this committee to make sure our alumni continue their passion for HEROs long after their college careers. Alumni Relations committee members must be able to communicate clearly and effectively in person, through email and over the phone as well as conduct themselves professionally when necessary.
HPR
- WOW – Tuesdays @ 7:30 PM in SLC 253
As the largest committee, WOW should represent the brand and the face of UGA HEROs. “If it’s not WOW, it’s not worth doing!” is a slogan at the backbone of HERO, and the WOW committee is dedicated to upholding this standard in all aspects of the organization. We keep it WOW by planning and running fun and informative monthly HERO meetings, organizing socials for HERO members, and making sure morale is always high at all HERO events. Since our committee will be composed of the most fabulously WOW students on campus, we intend to have the most fun while raising the most money through many small WOW fundraisers organized by committee members.
- Recruitment – Tuesdays @ 6:30 PM
The Recruitment Committee is one of the most important facets of the organization. The purpose of this committee is to gain awareness and membership for our organization. The more members that we have, the more that we fundraise, the more children are able to attend camps, get a mentor, and even pursue their dreams of going to college. Recruitment Committee members are responsible for helping coordinate themes and brainstorm ideas for the philanthropist recruitment, which occurs in the Fall (WOW week). Committee members should be passionate, hard-working, full of ideas, dedicated, creative, and fearless! With outstanding committee members, UGA HEROs will continue to grow as an organization and break life changing records!
Events
- Community Events – Wednesdays @ 8:00 PM
The Community Events committee serves UGA HEROs by uniting the campus, IFC and Panhellenic Greek organizations, as well as National Panhellenic and Multicultural Greek organizations by fundraising on behalf of UGA HEROs to promote its quality-of-life and educational programs. The committee will create excitement in the community about HERO and its mission. This is achieved by creating new and unique ideas for fundraising events that will utilize Greeks and other students (such as the Unity Step Show and the Greek Advocacy Dinner), speaking at chapter meetings, and recruiting new members to gather funds and support for the HERO children. Committee members must serve as a voice for HERO within their own organization or sorority and fraternity. Members must be organized, reliable, comfortable with speaking at chapters, and outgoing!
- Child Relations – Wednesdays @ 6:00 PM
Child Relations will focus on raising awareness and educating committees about child-related issues with HIV so all of UGA HEROs is familiar with this issue, HERO’s cause, and HERO’s kids! We will be planning an event in Atlanta in the spring that will involve all of UGA HEROs’ members and the HERO kids. Committee members should be enthusiastic, positive, diligent, creative, and 110% committed to the kids, which requires driving the kids from Atlanta to the HERO Olympics, and developing a pen-pal program, as well as raising an extensive amount of money!
- Wow Events – Wednesdays @ 6:00 PM
Wow Events is responsible for planning, organizing, promoting, and staffing two major events for HERO: one new event in the spring as well as the HERO Olympics in the fall, which has been ranked the “Best Campus Event” for 2005 and 2007. People in this committee should be hard-working, creative, and committed to making UGA HEROs’ major events the most memorable and exciting events on campus! We will work closely with the Special Events Committee and the Child Relations Committee to keep up the awareness, the enthusiasm, and the “WOW!”-factor that defines UGA HEROs!
- Special Events – Tuesdayss @ 7:00 PM
The Special Events Committee is responsible for planning and implementing new and innovative ideas that should achieve two goals: to rally the UGA campus and Athens community together around our cause to raise a ridiculous amount of money for these kids, and to raise awareness for UGA HEROs and the impact of HIV/AIDS on Georgia children. Special Events is fully responsible for organizing the Date Auction and Twilight activities along with other events envisioned by this amazingly creative, organized and diligent group of HEROs!
