UGA HEROs

Become a Philanthropist

The Philanthropist is the introductory level of membership available to interested UGA students. Philanthropists are the cornerstone of UGA HEROs – they are vital to the success and progress of our organization.

Philanthropists are categorized into groups by Residence Hall or Greek organization, or added to an existing team of participating upperclassmen. Each group is led by a trained Team Leader; together, you will raise money, meet the HERO children, and participate in the annual HERO Olympics (voted Best Campus Event!) in December. Teams meet two to three times a month to coordinate fundraising efforts.

A HERO Philanthropist must pledge to raise $150 – 100% of which goes directly to supporting the HEROs children and programs. Members almost always find this to be incredibly easy with the help of their teammates and Team Leaders. New members must also pay a fee of $20 which goes directly toward the fundraising goal, which covers the cost of your t-shirt and fundraising materials.

After serving in UGA HEROs for a year, many members desire to become even more involved with the organization. You will have the opportunity to apply for higher-level positions within HEROs after you have gained experience as a Philanthropist; these positions include Team Leader, Committee Member, and Executive Board Member. Many exceptional freshman opt to join the Freshman Council during their first year while they are serving as Philanthropists for HEROs.

Becoming a UGA HEROs Philanthropist is an excellent way to get involved on campus and meet new friends while making a difference in your community. Your contribution of time and energy has a lasting impact on the lives of children affected by HIV/AIDS. Every new member is a valuable addition to the team!
