After an incredibly successful spring recruitment, a week of interviews ensued. Interviews were held February 3rd through February 6th and left the executive board impressed, entertained, and optimistic for the upcoming year. Because of incredible increase of committee member applications we held our first Big Meeting in Tate Grand Hall. On Tuesday, February 10th at 8pm we ushered in about five hundred students for a kickoff like no other. The Executive Director of HERO for Children, Inc. in Atlanta, Donna Drakes, joined us here in Athens to explain to our new committee members just how impactful UGA is on our kids. She provided several facts about the demographics and hardships of our children and inspired us to exceed our goal of $415,000.

In addition to our 2015 kick off, this past week was Chickfilanthropy 2015. Chickfilanthropy is a week of healthy competition hosted by Chick-fil-a Barnett Shoals in which several UGA philanthropies can compete to win $1,000 for their cause. Monday, February 9 each philanthropy competed in a window painting competition. On Tuesday we recruited some of UGA’s football team to represent us in the food eating relay. Thomas Swilley, Brandon Kublanow, John Theus, Greg Pyke, and Aulden Bynum competed in sweat tea slurping, nugget nomming, fry tossing, and milkshake melting in the name of HEROs. On Wednesday, Chick-fil-a provided breakfast for dinner and gave away clown noses. Each clown nose won the philanthropy points or won a student free food. On Thursday, Chickfila threw a 50s themed social with Coke floats and poodle skirts. Throughout the entirety of the week points were also awarded to philanthropies for each dollar spent at Chick-fil-a, #CFAnthropy15 and #HEROs hashtag, as well as for likes on their respective instagram picture.

HEROs had an absolute blast eating lots of chicken, window painting, and tweeting to represent our cause. We would like to thank Chickfila Barnett Shoals for hosting the competition and believing in our causes! Congratulations to UGA Miracle for their win this year!
